“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
Why do some people enjoy their working and personal lives while others suffer anxiety and stress? The reason is that a few people have a true life purpose and they find a job or start a business that helps them to fulfil that purpose. These are the people who wake up every morning and go to work with enthusiasm and energy and return home at the end of the day feeling fulfilled.
The majority of people have not discovered their life purpose and sadly most never will. They take jobs purely to earn money and, unless they are lucky, will, at best, be comfortable in their work and at worst will be unhappy and may even suffer anxiety and stress.
The same is true for organisations who will tend to hire people who fit a role rather than people who fit the culture. This can be because they do not understand their purpose and values so have nothing to evaluate potential recruits against. For organisation who do have a clear purpose and values, there is no excuse. They should ensure that their recruitment process includes an evaluation of how potential recruits will fit with their purpose and values and that they hire those who are likely to be the best fit for the organisation.
